New Scoreboard in The AHS Gym

Albany High School is soon installing a brand new, modern, high-tech scoreboard in the gym thanks to an anonymous donor this summer. The donor stepped up and decided to underwrite the whole project for the school.

When asked about the scoreboard, Athletic Director Bill Tresseler says, “I don’t think that the school district, the school board or the administration would have considered something like that if it was going to come out of district funding. But because somebody from the outside stepped up and offered to help us out with this, we jumped on it, because it’s pretty valuable. It’s an expensive project.”

Tresseler says that while the old scoreboard wasn’t bad, the new one will be a huge improvement to the Gym.

He says, “If you go to every NBA gym, a lot of college gyms, and now some high school gyms, you’re starting to see these big video boards more and more, which is an enhancement. So it’s just an improvement.”

Tressler explains that the new scoreboard will be more modern. He says, “It’s a scoreboard with really cool graphics on it, and you can show videos on it. If you have a camera set up, like if we were doing a rally, you could be taking a video of the rally and show it up on the board in real time”

Exactly when students can expect the new scoreboard is still unclear.

Tressler says, “We’re still trying to get all the permits and everything that the government needs signed off on, so we’re in a little bit of a holding pattern at the moment.”
