Albany High School’s leadership has introduced several revisions to this year’s Homecoming itinerary. Many new events have been added to the schedule, some in replacement to old events such as the spirit day “Decades Day,” and also the co-ed game “Tug of War.”

In regards to why these events have been replaced, Albany Student Board President and AHS senior Leah Koo states, “Last year, Tug of War didn’t work out well for students, so we had the idea to add Musical Chairs as its replacement. For Decades Day, we decided to replace it with Seasons Day since students didn’t really have that much fun with it, while also having a hard time trying to dress up as different decades.”
Some of the other new spirit days apart of the HOCO itinerary are Meme Day, Anything but a Bag Day, Y2K Day and Dress for the Wrong Occasion Day.
Koo explains the reason that these extra Spirit Days have been added: “We thought that adding these would increase participation, school spirit and give people more opportunities to dress up and earn points.”
Sophomore Andre Sem says, “I think [the new spirit days] are really nice and my favorite one that got added is probably meme day because a lot of my friends participated in that spirit day.”
Although, the ASB team doesn’t just add all of these events right away to the HOCO itinerary without any prior discussions as to why they were added.
Pertaining to how the ASB team decide to implement these type of changes, Koo stated “Every Monday, the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Miss Hazel Aselstine has a meeting to plan the agendas for that week, and then during advisory, we have a discussion about it and take a vote based on those decisions.”
