Talented students prepare for their roles in this year’s school musical, Chicago, promising drama, music, and a mix of choreographed dances straight out of the 1920s. Known for its iconic jazz music and interpretation of fame and corruption, Chicago opened Wednesday and will be showcased two more times today at 2p.m. and 7p.m.

There’s more people involved in a musical than what meets the eye. The tech departments are essential and keep the show going, Charlie Winter, junior and co-head of the sound department said, “We’ve had a lot of problems because there’s no teachers or any adults involved with setting up tech for lights and sound, we have equipment we learned to use about a week ago.” Technical difficulties are big barriers for the cast and crew, especially when counting down the days.

The week before opening can be very stressful and fast paced, as Zoe Maderas, senior and co-head of the costume department, said, “It’s been a pretty stressful experience, but I think tech week always is. I’m really proud of the cast and crew for how far the show has come.” After all that hard work it’s worth it in the end. Jocelyn Chan, sophomore and co-head of the lighting department, shares Maderas’ excitement, “We’re all excited to open and show what we’ve been working hard on.” Make your way down to the little theatre and appreciate our dedicated cast and crew in one of Broadway’s most iconic productions.
