Teacher Gift Guide

What to get your teachers this holiday season

Gwen Pingree

Now that it’s the holiday season, you might be wondering what gifts to get your teachers. If so, look no further than this article! Most teachers get the typical presents such as mugs, pens, cards, and treats. The real question is, what do they actually want?

A fun, tasty present for some teachers is candy and chocolates. Mr. Russell, an English teacher, said, “I’ve gotten some really good candy boxes before…my family loves that.” Another teacher, Ms. Berberian, also said her favorite gift is chocolates.

While candies and chocolates are delicious treats, some teachers don’t want them as presents. Mr Janinis, a PE teacher, said, “I do appreciate the gift, but I just don’t have a sweet tooth.” He is, however, an avid coffee drinker and would love a Pete’s Coffee gift card from students looking to buy him a present.

Another teacher who is tired of the treats is Ms Velasquez. She would want a giftcard to local shops in Albany. Velasquez said, “I like when people give me gift cards to places that I wouldn’t usually go to, like Flowerland, Pegasus, or nearby restaurants on Solano.” With this option, you can then support a local business and get your presents all at once!

While store-bought presents are great, a meaningful message can go a long way. Profe Lim-McAlister, who has been teaching at Albany High School for more than 10 years, still loves handwritten notes from her students. She said, “The nicest thing is when kids write me letters.” This is a cost-efficient and easy way to show your gratitude towards your favorite teachers.
