Let me remind you of one thing:

The Idiotarod racer only has to worry about six of his dogs finishing out of 16. Not only that, it is a documented fact that these mushers kill puppies that don’t give promise of being decent running dogs.

Also, the original diptheria relay was A RELAY. Dogs were relayed like the Pony Express was relayed. In the Idiotarod, the same dogs are used.

I cannot believe the amount of ignorance that I’ve read on this thread. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear that many of the people who posted dumb did so because they just don’t want to know the truth. I know that Alaska falls outside of the 38 states held to the United States Animal Cruelty Act, but I never suspected until doing more reading that Alaska is more separated from us than by just miles. I would be ashamed to be from Alaska because of this race, and, as I look at my dog, my best friend, sleeping next to me, I’m going to be sick for the next week knowing that north of me there are a bunch of selfish, abusive, mercenaries hurting their dogs.
