Volleyball Players Save the Best for Last

To call the match a complete blowout would be pushing it. The St. Joe’s Pilots played well late into the match. But either way, there was not much competition for the Cougar volleyball players Thursday, September 11. In fact, the first game ended before the match was even supposed to begin as a result of the JV’s hasty victory.
The Cougars took the first game with a final score of 25-13; the second game with a score of 25-11. Both games served to showcase the lady Cougars’ volleyball prowess. But whatever was not happening with the Pilots in the first two games came out in the third. What appeared to be an easy victory turned into an exciting struggle.
From the start, one could tell that the third game was going to be different from the rest. Each point was back and forth with spectacular plays on both sides. Though all of the lady Cougars performed well, Kelsey Karawanny, Kaitlin Giblin and Breanna Habu shined in all three games. Karawanny’s hits, Habu’s serves and Giblin’s all-around play proved to be a near invincible combination.
As the end of the third game approached, Albany secured a seven-point lead over the Pilots with a score of 24-17. The win was in sight, but the Pilots would not give up. They came back with six consecutive points and almost tied up the game. Fortunately, the Cougars pulled themselves back together and secured the victory with a final score of 25-23.
Hopefully, Albany’s play versus St. Joes is indicative of the season to come and we can expect to see many more wins down the road.
