The Cougar Pride Awards

The Leadership class has just created a new awards program honoring students who are making Albany High a better, more comfortable place. The Cougar Pride Award is not linked to either academic or athletic achievement. It is based mostly on the student’s actions in and outside of class. Supporting a teacher or another student, interacting well with others, or even helping out in the halls can earn a student the award.

As the qualifications are not based on grades, there is a larger opportunity for a student to be recognized more than they might have otherwise been. It is up to a teacher or other staff member to choose who and how many students they recommend.

The goal for these awards? To improve the school community by recognizing the commendable things students do.

Cougar Pride students will receive an award signed by the principal and a donut or bagel breakfast during advisory.

The first Cougar Pride students are: Ingrid Johansen, Sasha Yovanovich, Andrew Schneider, Erik Staley, Andrew Rivera, Sarah Burger, Claudia Leon, Aisha Khan, Robb Silverstein, April Yang, Keng Lam, Cinithia Simon, Pitou Lor, Rishi Grewal, Gergory Shimamura, Juliana Tobar, Justin McKone, Jacob Delbridge, Eddie Casinola, Melia Ungson, Carla Del Toro, and Hyoung Min Lee.

  1. WOW DEN IF U DON MIND CAN I SEE D PIC OF DIS AWARD^?? *-* THNK U

  2. To me it’s just another excuse for the faculty and administration to raise spirit and spark interest amongst students. When I was selected for this award I kinda had my hopes up, thinking i would get a plaque with my name engraved on it saying cougar pride I merely received a bagel and a piece of paper with my name on it saying thanks for making this school a better place. Signed of course by Mr. Barone. Not only were we not recognized by anyone other than Ms. digulio’s advisory leadership class but our names weren’t even published in the bulletin nor any mention of this award occurred outside of this article by inbal and perhaps once in the school bulletin. If the faculty want to get students involved with awards i think it needs to step up when it comes to making it “worth while”

  5. “Doughnut…bagel…what, world running out of scrambled eggs?”
