Swimmers move on to NCS

On Friday, May 9th, both the boys and the girls Albany High School swim teams went to the BSAL championship. During their league season, the JV guys and JV girls were undefeated. The Varsity girls were 5-2 and Varsity boys were 3-3.

The BSAL championship was the last swim event where Michelle Lau-Seim was serving as the head coach. Knowing that, the swimmers gave it their all and placed second at BSAL championships. Both Varsity men and women placed a respectable second place to Saint Patricks/Saint Vincents while the JV girls placed third and the JV boys once again placed first.

Ursula Dailey is moving on to NCS for 100 backstroke (1:00.26) and 100 butterfly (56.44). On top of that, Catherine Dunn’s 50 free time of 25.27 seconds; the women’s 200 medley relay (1:57.82) team consisting of Mina Clahan, Ursula Dailey, Catherine Dunn, and Amanda Jacobs; the women’s 200 free relay (1:48.34), of Brisa Bodell, Clahan, Dailey, and Dunn; the men’s 200 free relay (1:36.40), of Arick Chow, Jay Gong, Timothy Juwono, and Julian Le; the men’s 400 free relay (3:42.03), of Chow, Le, Ken Qu, and Richard Zhang, are all in consideration for North Coast Section.

Coach Lau is very happy to end her career as a high school swim coach on a good note as she is preparing to have her first child this summer. She will be handing over the orb of power over to Albany’s one and only assistant coach, Stephen Duncle, who has made countless contributions to the swimming community. Go Cougars!!!
