One Square Mile premieres this Thursday

One Square MileBroadcast journalism students bring us the second year of AHS’s student-produced television show One Square Mile. The students are different, the segments are different, but the magazine style of the show remains the same as last year’s debut.

This year, hosts senior Ellen Streit and junior Sean Smith will introduce the show from Albany High’s studio. You can catch One Square Mile Thursday, November 2 @ 8:00 – 8:30 p.m. on Channel 33 and during advisory on Friday, November 3. The show will run again on Channel 33 on Saturday and Sunday.

Considering the differences between OSM this school year versus last school year, executive producer and broadcast journalism teacher Jeff Castle said, “Last year’s students did the legwork that allows this year’s group to jump right in and get going.”

The class of seventeen works on four regular segments per episode, with a producer, a writer/correspondent and a camera operator for each segment. Production manager senior Genevieve Michel tells audiences to keep an eye out for the segments on tattoos and sidekicks in the first episode. There are also three recurring segments that will appear in all six episodes: the host segment, ‘Destination Earth with Emily Mabanglo,’ and ‘School Focus.’

“It’s nice to work with people we’ve known our whole lives in a professional setting working on one creative effort. Audiences should look forward to watching OSM develop throughout the year,” Michel elaborated.
