Men’s tennis starts season on a good note
The inaugural season of the Albany High Men’s Tennis team has finally begun. On Tuesday February 26, 2008, the Cougars faced off against the Salesian Pride, at home, for their first match of the season. The result of the match could not have been any better. The Cougars came out on top of the match winning five out of the seven matches played. The win is a good start for the Cougars’ season.
Number one singles player David Trejo led the way with a 6-1, 6-1 opening victory. Albany won three out of four singles matches and two out of three doubles matches. Ali Zavar and Dennis Hua were also victorious in their singles matches, winning 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-2 respectively. Only Brian Ling experienced a singles match loss; however, he faced off against Salesian’s usual top seeded player, Greg Chandler, who moved down a spot because of illness.
Johnny Weng and Simon Chen won a close match 7-5, 6-3 while Andrew Sparks and Matt Chang won comfortably 6-4, 6-2. Doubles tandem Edmund Hsu and Chu-Meng Li brought the only Albany doubles loss, but it was of little significance. It is safe to say that the Albany men’s tennis team has started the season off on the right note.
