Men’s Cross Country Takes League Title
The Bay Shore Athletic League cross-country meet took place last week, yielding exciting results for the men’s varsity squad. Led by senior captain Brian Shea, the men’s varsity team won their first league title since 1985. However, the race was no blow out as the Cougars beat their rival St. Mary’s by only one point, 34-35.
Shea’s second place finish was a key factor for the men’s win, also earning him All-League honors along with senior Keegan Richerson, juniors James Pickering, Connor Haight and Chris Gioia and sophomore Aiden Juengling Bean.
The women’s varsity team took third in league behind St. Mary’s and Piedmont. Due to the amount of injuries that troubled their season, it is considered a good finish.
Freshman Marielle Pastor led the team and earned All-League in addition to sophomores Jessica Quinn, Brisa Bodell and Ana Castillo James.
Recognition should also be given to the men’s junior varsity team who went undefeated for the second straight season. Juniors James Lincoff, John Nagel and Cong Chen all received All-League honors.
In the frosh/soph men’s race, freshman Nolan Tonkyn finished in first place followed by freshman Albert Buck-Bauer and sophomore Tim Clopp. These high-ranking placements helped win the men’s frosh/soph team title. Tonkyn, Buck-Bauer and Clopp all received All-League honors along with sophomores Ryan Masterson, Brian Urban and Pavel Gladkevich.
Both the women’s and men’s varsity teams will compete in the North Coast Section competition taking place this Saturday, November 22.
