Lady Cougars advance in BSAL playoffs, take on St. Pats tonight at 7

On Tuesday, February 13, the Albany High School women’s basketball team prevailed in a playoff victory over BSAL opponent St. Joseph Notre Dame. Even without leading scorer Tori Nicks, the Lady Cougars handled the Pilots throughout the game, resulting in a 52-45 victory.

The Lady Cougars jumped out ahead of the Bruins in the first quarter and never lost the lead. They took a 27-23 advantage into the half and were able to withstand any run the Pilots made in the second half.

Essentially, the same lineup remained in the game for the duration, as senior Annie Chin, juniors Laura and Joan Cannon, sophomore Crystal Peterson, and freshman Tamaya Newsome played good, hard minutes to earn the victory.

The Lady Cougars hoped that by earning the fourth seed it would give them a strong home court advantage, but not many fans were there for support. Some members of the Cave student section and from the men’s varsity basketball team came to give their support, but there were not as many people there as hoped. The team would love it if you would come and support them.

Come out and root for our Lady Cougars as they take on the number-one seeded St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins at 7 p.m. Thursday night, February 15!
