Kagawa, seniors victorious in final home game

Junior Alex Assia honors Coach Kagawa at his last home gameOn Friday, February 2, hundreds of fans filled the gym to witness the last home game of Coach Doug Kagawa and seniors Nico Guardalabene, Bryan Ma, Andre Gumina, Zach Babitt, Eric Roberson, and Kevin Karera. The Cougars put on quite a show in their thrilling victory over the John Swett Indians.

The teams swapped leads throughout the first three quarters. The Cougars eventually took a seven-point lead in the final minute, and closed out the game with a 65-61 victory.

Karera led the way, scoring 17 points, making eight shots from the field, and hitting one of two free throws. Roberson and Babitt put up 13 a piece, and Gumina wasn’t far behind scoring a solid 12 points in the winning effort.

With the BSAL playoffs looming, the last few games could be the difference between a home game, a clear advantage for the Cougars with the new addition of the rowdy Cave student section, and an away game, which would be a definite disadvantage. Currently sitting with a 5-5 league record, and having already clinched a playoff spot, the Cougars now ask where they will be seeded.

Come out and support your Cougars as they claw their way into the league playoffs, and hopefully the NCS Tournament.
