JV Softball blows out Piedmont 21-12
The Cougar JV softball team started out slowly, but gained speed quickly as they pulled out a win over Piedmont, 21-12, on Monday, May 5.
Trailing 9-3 after the top of the third inning, the Albany Cougars overcame the six-run deficit, gaining a nine run lead over their BSAL rivals.
Even though it was such a high scoring game, Camille Dyhr had a great pitching day, striking out 5 batters. Allie Presher came in to finish the game, and held Piedmont to 12 runs. Shelby Delaney also had a fierce defensive and offensive game, making multiple outs in left field and busting out line drives past the Piedmont shortstop.
At the top of the first inning, Albany trailed 3-0. At bat, Josephine Smith whacked a line drive to second base moving Katie Tick to second. Shelby Delaney loaded up the bases with a line drive past third. Albany went into the second inning still trailing 3-2.
In the field, Albany held Piedmont to their one run lead. In the bottom of the second, Allie Presher hit a fly to left to tie up the game 3-3.
The top of the third is where Albany lost momentum. While Piedmont scored six runs, the Cougars did not keep their heads down. They came back with vengeance in the bottom of the third and batted through the line up, scoring ten runs. Albany finally took a lead over Piedmont, 13-9, and got even stronger from there.
With Allie Presher pitching, Piedmont only stole three more runs from the Cougars. When at bat, Albany managed to hit through the order multiple times and scored eight more runs. Sydney Morrone and Chloe McFadin doubled, while Josephine Smith tripled, moving players swiftly from base to base. Elana Jacobs-Pontecorvo ended the game in an amazing jumping catch, snagging a line drive at shortstop. With the final score of 21-12, the Cougar’s overall league record rose to 10-1.
With one more game to go, the JV Cougar softball team is second in league, closely trailing the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins.

Hey at least people aren’t pretending to be ME in comments this time..
There are plenty of good players on JV softball, just because its JV doesnt mean we suck, our record proves that. softball isnt all about how well you play, there are politics involved and your grades and attitude, as well as the dynamic of the team as a whole. so stop saying stuff when you actually know nothing. thanks.
