Juniors Upset Seniors in Powderpuff Final

Many devastated seniors stormed away from the gym after the Powderpuff Football final on October 7, 2008. With a win of 21-7, the juniors dominated the game. The seniors were missing key player Crystal Peterson, and fell behind when the juniors scored an early touchdown.
While the seniors focused on playing a passing game, the juniors avoided throwing the ball and mostly ran it. The senior’s strategy to focus on passing did not work to their advantage. Most attempts failed due to inaccurate throws and failure to catch the ball. The seniors did have a few close attempts but only managed to score one touchdown when Jocelyn Kaku caught a long pass in the end zone.
Star player Amanda Mallard scored all three junior touchdowns. The juniors used a number of strategic and effective plays including the “statue of liberty” where the quarterback fakes a throw and hands the ball behind her back to the runner. The statue of liberty play resulted in one touchdown while reverses resulted in the others.
A few dramatic aspects of the game caused both senior and junior resentment.
As the game progressed and the junior fans became more confident of winning, their cheering became taunting towards the seniors. Many seniors were offended by cheers flaunting the score, including “scoreboard” and “they don’t want it.”
The taunting only subsided when administrator Tami Benau threatened by loudspeaker to take away points from the junior class if they continued.
Also, many seniors claim that junior Amanda Mallard illegally tied her flag around her waist, which resulted in her three touchdowns. At one point in the game, multiple seniors tried to pull her flag off but they did not succeed. The junior team responded that the seniors were not properly pulling the flag off with one hand, but instead were grabbing both sides, a method that does not successfully remove the flag.
Despite these incidents, the game went fairly smoothly.
