Haunting in Connecticut- Movie Review

Yet another mediocre horror film has been released. The Haunting in Connecticut is based on a true story that took place in an old-fashioned Victorian haunted house. The supernatural forces that are enclosed in this house are ambiguous. The Cambell family moves to Connecticut urgently needing a place nearby to take care of the cancer-stricken teenager son. House hunting became very difficult to the family. The beautiful, spacious house seemed perfect, until they family found out it used to be a terrifying funeral parlor dating back to the 1920’s, which holds all sorts of spiritual entities. It is at no amazement that the realtors seemed eager to be rid of the property.

Matt, the ill son, who copes with chemotherapy, also struggles to remain sane in the household. People believe that Matt’s visions of ghosts and disturbing images of the dead are simply hallucinations and side effects of his treatment.

Many incidents from the movie are quite odd and illogical. It is strange how the little kids play hide-and-seek in their creepy, gigantic house even after realizing it used to be a torture chamber. After many insane encounters with the demons, the family still remains in the house. They must be really eccentric themselves if they dealt with demonic encounters for so long.

This movie is rated PG-13. I can understand why. For any viewers who are frightened by horror films in general, nothing too gruesome happens. It can’t happen, look at the ratings. There are frequent sudden scares and heart-pounding scenes, but generally, the audience will know when something is going to pop up in the screen. The obvious suspense and the weird, creepy music will make it apparent.

This movie is honestly like every other horror clichés that have been shown before. The only part that might encourage viewers to seek out this film is the advertising, “based on a true story”. That’s what I fell for, but quickly realized it was not worth the ten bucks for a 90-minute film. By the way, the previews happen to be much scarier than the actual movie.
