Generation Day!
Upon arriving at Albany High on Thursday, you may have been struck with a lingering doubt about whether you entered a high school or some sort of multi-generation nursing home/daycare facility. Crowds of senior citizens, complete with gray hair, large glasses, and massive backsides pushed their walkers down the halls, while toddlers, hair in pigtails and lollipops in hand, got their cheeks pinched lovingly by a reminiscent grandmother. The clack of high-heeled shoes sounded through the school as adults made their way into classes.
Actually it was just Generation Day at Albany High. Freshmen dressed up as babies, sophomores as toddlers, juniors as adults, and seniors as senior citizens.
Senior Laurel Fischer, decked out in a wonderful blue nylon sweat suit and moving unsteadily on her walker said, “I think Generation Day allows people to get the most creative.”
Fellow senior Julie Pirkle, sporting a lovely Christmas sweater that did not quite cover her expanded rear agreed: “I like it. Everyone gets really into character.”
All in all, Generation Day proves entertaining every year, as long as you don’t go crazy from all those crying babies in the hall.
