Disney Day!

Dwarves, Incredibles, and dainty princesses swarm onto a campus that is liberally smothered in orange paint, road signs and balloons. Clearly the homecoming spirit is taking over for Disney Day of homecoming week!

Disney Day is the only occasion to turn everyday Albany High School students into animated characters. Class color-coordinated outfits were abandoned in favor of the adorable, fun, frivolous and outright outrageous garments of Disney’s creations. Minnie, Mickey, Tinker Bell, Snow White, Belle, and Pocahontas were among the most popular guises for individuals. These stunning costumes could only be outdone by the masses of toga-bearing Olympians and spotted dalmatians going head to head in the stands for the Junior vs. Senior Powderpuff finals. Unfortunately, time didn’t allow for a count of the Disney characters. No spirit points were added to the total tallies. The class competition will have to wait until tomorrow, when the school erupts in class colors.

As for those who didn’t come out in costume, it was mainly the fact that “some work” was involved in the costume-hunting. However, there were those that didn’t agree with the principal of Disney themed costumes. “Technically a lot of these characters aren’t even Disney. A lot of these characters were in stories in the public domain,” said an anonymous junior.

Want more spirit? The most intense spirit day of homecoming is up next!
