Concert choir to separate into men’s and women’s choirs
Next year will be Chad Zullinger’s second year of choir instruction, and he’s got plans to change AHS Concert Choir.
Traditionally, beginning singers enter Concert Choir their first year and join Advanced Chorale provided they have the appropriate vocal skills. Boys and girls join a single chorus and practice together for competitions and concerts. It doesn’t work out perfectly, as the females often dominate males in time and numbers, causing an unequal practice experience between both genders.
To solve the problem, Zullinger wants to split Concert Choir into two classes – a women’s choir and a men’s choir. The two choirs will practice mixed music (music for an all-gender chorus) separately, but will come together during concerts. The separate choirs will also practice music for their respective genders – the women’s choir will practice music for sopranos, second sopranos, and altos, while the men’s choir will practice music for tenors and basses.
Zullinger called it “Four choirs from three classes,” because during concerts, Advanced Chorale will perform its music, while the men’s and women’s choirs will come together to perform Concert Choir music (mixed music) as well as men’s and women’s choir music (not mixed).
While Concert Choir has in general always had a large female population, the same can’t be said for the males. Not to blatantly advertise for more males, but really, you never know when you’ll need to sing, and it’s better to start earlier than later. Plus, you’ll look nice in a tuxedo performing in a concert – guaranteed. So lift that pencil and sign up. You might become the next Michael Jackson, minus the plastic surgery and the creepy behavior.
Look forward to even better choir concerts next year!

I think we’re going in state. He wants to trade off going instate and out of state. Chorale went to Chicago this year, so we’ll be touring in Cali for the ‘07-’08 year.
