Club Rush 2008!
Club Rush day this year was exciting and inventive. New groups such as the Nutrition Club, Transportation Club, and Ballroom Dancing Club were introduced to the school’s diverse collection of organizations and student unions.
The quiet and normally deserted courtyard was transformed into a hustling and bustling bazaar. At first glance the courtyard resembled a farmer’s market displaying treats such as candies and cookies, and surprisingly, sushi. Presidents and founders of clubs were frantically trying to claim as many signatures as possible by coercing and bribing unsuspecting but thankful students to join their cause.
It is gratifying how many passionate and spirited students are fighting to improve our community and even the world. From students fighting for human rights worldwide, to students raising money to make sports affordable for kids in the Bay Area, it is remarkable to see the wide range of issues about which Albany High students are concerned.
However, not all of the clubs are looking to save the world. Some are looking to support a common hobby, celebrate religious or racial pride, and others are just looking for an excuse to have fun. Barbeque Student Union is a perfect example of a laid back club with a purpose of enjoying the art of barbeque.
The immensely supported and successful Club Rush day is a harbinger for a promising and productive year.
