Boys soccer team picks up second win of season
The Cougars varsity soccer team defeated the John Swett Indians 3-0 on Wednesday, December 6. After picking up a win and two ties in their previous games, the Cougars were eager to continue their undefeated streak.
Albany senior Richie Bertone put the Cougars out to a quick lead with a goal within the first ten minutes. The game appeared as if it were going to be a runaway, but the Cougars were unable to put any more goals on the board, despite taking many shots. At the half the Cougars led, 1-0.
The second half played much like the first, with the Cougars unable to capitalize on multiple opportunities against what was clearly an inferior Swett team. The Cougar defense looked strong, and the ball was kept out of their side of the field for almost the entire half. Junior Giovanni Gonzalez scored a goal late in the second half that ended the game for all intents and purposes, and sophomore Silvio Dixon scored on a penalty kick to put Albany up by three with just a few minutes left.
The Cougars appear to have a good chance at competing in league this year as they look to keep their good play up.
