Aaron Waterhouse wins BSAL Championship

On Monday, April 28th the boys’ golf team brought home a champion and a NCS bound team. The Cougars placed second just five strokes behind Piedmont, but Aaron Waterhouse made Albany High history by becoming the first golfer in school history to win at the league tournament.

At the end of the regular season there were three teams tied for BSAL, and to qualify for NCS according to this league you must be either first or second the league to go on the NCS. The three teams that were tied were: Albany, St. Pats, and Salesian. The second place finish was at the BSAL tournament.

At the end of the day Aaron was tied with SPSV player Ryan Clauzel forcing a sudden death playoff. The rules are the first person to win the hole wins the tournament. One the first hole both Waterhouse and Clauzel forced the playoff to keep going by both getting bogeys, but on the par 3 second Waterhouse drained a ten foot par putt to win the tournament. After being proud of eachother for qualifying for NCS the team was extra happy that they were bringing home the champ.

The result score for the Cougars was a 435, a team best for eighteen holes. The team is very proud of themselves to be reaching their goal of going to NCS.

May 12, 2008: Title clarified - Aaron Waterhouse won the championship, not the whole team.
