BBC America: A little brit different

BBC AmericaGetting my wisdom teeth out was a great thing. Okay, not going to lie, I could’ve done without the pain and being drugged up wasn’t my idea of a good time, but it gave me an opportunity to watch endless amounts of television.

After awhile, VH1 and MTV got really old and there is only so much Rock of Love someone can watch.

Then I was introduced to BBC America, quite frankly one of the best channels ever. Like all channels they run the risk of having a few lame shows, but the rest is incredibly fantastic.

The British are pretty brilliant and our television writers have realized this as well since they’ve borrowed many show ideas from them. The Office was adapted from their hit series The Office. The thing is, their shows work so much better than ours.

Our adaptation of Coupling, another British show, lasted about two seconds, whereas theirs is still going strong.

Another popular show that we have become obsessed with is American Idol, our version of England’s Pop Idol. Whose Line is it Anyway was also taken from them, and let’s face it, everything is funnier with a British accent.

The British are also into the supernatural phase that is trying to happen over here. BBC shows like Doctor Who and Torchwood are immensely popular and pretty out there, but for some reason are so incredibly good. We’re trying ourselves with Supernatural and Ghost Whisperer which have both lost some steam, but there is only so much Jennifer Love Hewitt and cutie Jared Padalecki can do.

For newbies to BBC America, some top shows to check out are:

  1. Ramsey’s Kitchen
  2. The Office (British Version)
  3. Absolutely Fabulous
  4. Little Britain
  5. The Graham Norton Show
  6. Torchwood
  7. Hotel Babylon

These shows are primetime so don’t forget the daytimers. However, for the daytimers you’ll need either Tivo or a mother with the Attendance Office on speed dial.

  1. BBC America is pretty much the best thing ever.
    Also, Torchwood is amazing.

  2. The British Office and “Cracker” were both ten times better than the american versions.

  3. You forgot to mention Top Gear. It’s an auto show with 3 lads cocking about over autos….wait, that came out so wrong.

  4. the british office is almost as good as the american version! hilarious stuff

  5. I <3 JACKI!!!

  6. Just so everyone knows, Torchwood is a spin-off of Doctor Who, even crossing over characters at some points.
And I completely agree with this article, but then again, I’m British.

  7. booo!
