Albany takes Piedmont 2-0
On April 30th, the Albany baseball team made the annual trip up to Evans Diamond In Berkeley to play Piedmont at Cal’s baseball stadium. Bear territory was the perfect place for Albany to snap their four- game losing streak, with a 2-0 victory.
The story of the game was pitching. It was a pitchers duel by the Cougars Kyle Shipley and Piedmont’s Bryce Chu. Shipley edged Chu by pitching a complete game shutout and allowed only two hits while striking out eight. Shipley also had one of only two RBI’S for the Cougars.
After the game, Shipley said, “ after losing the last four games it was huge for us to get this win.”
An interesting part of the game was the ending, with two outs and a runner on second base, Piedmont’s batter hit a line drive toward left-center field. Albany center fielder Brandyn Adney had a great bead on the ball from the get go and made a very nice diving catch to end the game.
For the second straight game that Albany has played at Evans diamond, Brandyn Adney was part of the last out. Lat year when Albany lost to St. Mary’s, Adney made the last out with runners on base, this year Adney made up for it with a great catch to stop a potential Piedmont rally.
Albany won’t have much rest before their next game, as they take on St. Mary’s on May 1, who posts a 14-4 record, and defeated Albany in their last game 9-3.
