AHS Hopes to Open Cougar Field
Cougar Field, the long-awaited trophy of Albany High’s athletic program is almost here. With October around the bend, construction workers are racing against the clock to have the field ready for the upcoming football season, but regardless of the outcome, it’s going to be one close finish. The bleachers were backordered, the field house has no electricity, the track hasn’t been laid, and the mandatory sound wall has yet to be built, but school officials are keeping their hopes up. After many legal battles and resident complaints the administration’s current goal is to have the field open by Homecoming, which falls on October 10th. Athletic Director Deborah Wanlin also hopes to hold opening ceremonies for the field the following week.
Currently the football team is allowed to practice on the field but without fully built goal posts, an actual game is, at this point, impossible.
The football team starts play this Saturday at 1:30 against Emeryville High. Go Cougars!
