A Midsummer Night’s Dream finishes
The AHS Theater Ensemble concluded its final performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Saturday night. Senior Sophie Dresser directed the story of four adolescents caught up in a love quadrilateral. Hermia (Mia Kleven) and Lysander (Rees Blanchard) were in love, but that love was complicated by Demetrius’s (Thomas Poole) affections for Hermia. Meanwhile, Helena (Sarah Asarnow) couldn’t leave Demetrius alone, blinded by her love for him. Drama, heartbreak, and romance ensue for the four lovers when fairies Oberon and Puck (Hilary Armstrong and Erik Staley) decide to cast their magic love spells over the men, much to the ladies’ confusion and frustration.
The performance was full of energy, led by sophomore Staley’s spirited performance, which seemed to invigorate the rest of the cast. And after two weekends of performances, the cast members had their parts down so thoroughly that the performance flowed almost flawlessly. Congratulations to Sophie Dresser and the AHS Theater Ensemble on a very entertaining job well done.
