“Rock the Mock” Election

On Wednesday, October 22, Albany High School Connect students will be holding a Mock 2008 Election in the main lobby. Registration forms have been distributed in advisory classes. History and IHS teachers will take their students to vote during 2nd, 4th, or 6th period and you must be registered in order to vote. If you are not able to go with your class to vote, the polls will also be open during break or lunch for independent voting.
Pamphlets informing students about the candidates’ views on the issues of health care, the economy, and the war on terror (prepared by Connect juniors) and posters that outline the pros and cons of state propositions (prepared by Connect seniors) have been distributed.
Connect teacher Emily Surowitz commented, “I’m really excited about the Mock Election because I think it’s a great opportunity for kids to learn an important civics lesson. In the broad spectrum so few people vote and I think it’s powerful for kids to be exposed to the process early so they can encourage adults to vote and they can see the impact they can have on the country by voting.”
The Connect Academy will release the election results to the rest of the school on Thursday.
